The Children’s Museum of Phoenix is hosting their annual School House Prep month in July, where visitors get to enjoy not only Museum playtime but also programs and activities rich in literacy and getting kids ready for school. The month is generously sponsored by Talking Stick Resort. This is the tenth year that Talking Stick Resort and the Museum have partnered to bring this month-long focus on literacy and school readiness to Museum visitors.

School House Prep programs include:

  • Color Match: A fun concentration game using different pictures in various colors.
  • KIDchen: After-School Snacks – Interactive programs where kids learn how to make some yummy after-school treats.
  • Shape Collages: Children learn shapes and use them to create a pretty picture.
  • Awakening Creativity – Music & Dance: Toddlers and Preschoolers are the perfect age for these two programs. Awakening Creativity: Music focuses on rhythm, beat, pitch and audiation while utilizing music for emotional self-regulation and laying the foundation for future literacy and math skills. Kids will do some schoolhouse prep with shapes, colors and numbers songs in this class.  Awakening Creativity: Dance explores different genres of dance, fun themes and will have kids learning basic dance and movement skills though imaginative play and creative movement activities. While engaging small and large muscles as they embody movement, kids also develop their personality and emotions through self-expression.
  • Sort & Count Bottles: Children practice sorting and counting with pom poms.

These programs are free with paid Museum admission of $17 per person. Members and children under the age of one are free. Space is limited for some of these programs and therefore reservations are required at check in.
